Mentoring at Valley  Elementary School Valley Elementary School’s Mentoring Program “TAKING TIME FOR TIGERS” is looking for volunteers to serve as mentors for our energetic and enthusiastic elementary grade level students (K-5) for the 2008-2009 school year.  If you are high energy, reliable, and dedicated to being a role model to younger students please consider being a mentor.  They are looking for mentors to volunteer once a week on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday from approximately 2:45-3:45 and 12:15- 1:15 on Wednesday.  Applications are available in room K-25 (Student Services). Receptionist at senior center

Answer phones, greet visitors and perform minor office tasks. Perfect your office and professional skills as you work at the Reception Desk for the Poway Senior Center.  Students must be at least 17 years old.  At the end of the program, you will receive a letter of recommendation from the PSC. Flexible hours and days available:  Mon - Fri: 8am-12pm or 12pm-4pm.

Food packaging for orphans in Africa Goal is to package 100,000 meals for people in Tanzania.  In February they packaged 103,000 meals.  Students have said this is the most fun they ever had doing community service!  They are also looking for help raising $6-8,000. In Tanzania, there are 10,000 people - 6,000 of them under the age of 16!  next date TBD

Tutoring ELL students In the spring semester there will be an after school study skills/cultural class for ELL (English Language Learners) students.  Tutors in core subjects and students interested in educating ELL students about our culture are encouraged to volunteer two days per week (either M-W or T-Th).  Tessa Pouliot

Work with patients with Alzheimer's A small home for patients with Alzheimer's Disease is looking for students to interact with their patients.  Volunteers could play the guitar, do arts and crafts, fix their hair, etc.  The home is located right by Espola and Twin Peaks Roads. Judy Prentiss

Seniors, childcare, elementary homework help and more! SAVY (Students Actively Volunteering for You) is dedicated to helping middle school and high school students from throughout San Diego meet real community needs through volunteerism. We engage more than 30,000 students each year in community service and service learning projects, and we support hundreds of other youth through our min-grant program. SAVY provides opportunities for young people to volunteer, develop and demonstrate leadership skills, make a difference in the community and much more.
