Text Box: IMPORTANT INFO FOR 2007-2008
POWAY HIGH SCHOOL

4 “A”sOnce again, Poway High has made the 4 “A”s the focus for this school year.  These are: Academics, Attendance, Appearance, and Attitude.  We wholeheartedly believe by staying committed to these values, students will be successful in high school and the world beyond.

TUTORIAL - Students who are struggling or just need a little extra help can attend tutorial on Wednesday and Thursday from 2:10 p.m. until 2:30 p.m.  Because early success in high school is a priority, tutorial is mandatory for all freshmen for the first three weeks of school.  Freshmen and sophomores with a grade of C- or below must attend weekly tutorial; students are released from this obligation when they bring up their grade to above a 73%.  Tutorial is open to juniors and seniors as well.  Additionally, many teachers are available at other times (such as before school, lunch, or after school on other days) – students should check with their individual teachers.

DRESS CODE - Please be sure your student dresses appropriately for school activities and maintains a standard of common decency for an academic environment.  Specific guidelines for student dress are outlined in the student planner.

LATE START MONDAYS - Administrative offices do not open until 8:45 a.m. on Mondays due to Professional Growth activities occurring on campus.

LEARNING POINT - This on-line tool enables parents to monitor student progress in each of their student’s classes.  Grades are generally updated every two weeks.  Log on at www.LearningPoint.org to receive instructions on accessing your student’s account.  To gain access to their grades, you will need their ID number and their GRID number (a number that was mailed home with standardized test scores).

ATTENDANCE - Please call the 24-hour Attendance Hotline at 858-748-7016 by 11 a.m., each day your student is absent.  Students arriving less than 30 minutes late should report directly to class, while those more than 30 minutes tardy should report to the Attendance Office.  Students arriving late between classes, during break, or lunch must check in with the Attendance Office before going to the next class.

E-UPDATE - The weekly E-Update is a quick and easy way to stay up-to-date on all the activities occurring on campus. To receive this valuable link between school and home, please provide your e-mail address to the Attendance Office and/or contact Linda Severino at lseverino@powayusd.com.
