Rules for using

COMPUTERS IN THE LIBRARY

If we all work together, our
computers will run smoothly.

PART 1: Responsible Computer Use

The library has 90 computers for student use.  Teachers may send students on a pass or sign up their class to use the computers.  Unless you have a pass or are off-roll, you may not be in the library during class time.

Students must have their ID card in order to use a computer.

To use a computer while visiting the Library simply place your ID card in the wooden slot located on top of the computer.  The computers are for school related use only, you must follow the computer use rules posted by your workstation and listed below.

bullet

No e-mail without permission (you may e-mail documents home or retrieve them for printing) e-mail must be school related.

No games

bullet

No chat rooms, instant messenger, or posting to bulletin boards

bullet

No changing screen settings (wallpaper, screen saver, resolution, etc.) may result in loss of computer privileges

Violation of these or any rules on the PUSD’s Acceptable Technology Use Agreement (which all parents and students sign at registration) may result in lost of computer privileges!  Students violating a rule may have their name placed on a list.  A second violation will result in a suspension of computer privileges.

YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE COMPUTER YOU ARE USING!

IF YOU FIND SOMETHING DIFFERENT ABOUT A COMPUTER, SPEAK WITH SOMEONE AT THE DESK OR YOU COULD BE HELD RESPONSIBLE (e.g. different wallpaper, unknown icons...).

Printing: The library has 2 laser printers; one black and white and one color. Printouts are 15¢ a page for black and white; 50¢ a page for color

PART 2:  Helpful Hints for Computers in the Library

Novell Login:  Log On!  Each time you use a computer in the library, login to the Novell network.

Location: Student

Username: ID NUMBER

Password: 6 character birthdate (mmddyy)

Save documents to your Novell network folder.  Log off when you're done.

Diskettes: Diskettes can be purchased for 25¢ at the front desk.  Backup your work to your network folder--diskettes often get bent or damaged and aren't reliable.

Flash Drives can be used in the front USB ports of each computer.

Save Often:  That's our motto.  Save every minute--save before printing--save after each paragraph...  Library computers are on all day and are used heavily--save your work often (to your network folder) to avoid the tragedy of lost work from a frozen computer!
