Have you been trying to help your child with math homework
and feeling stuck? Would you like to know more about the
new math program that your children are using this year? If
so, please click on the link below. This address works to
go directly to the Math Expressions page. The eGlossary is
helpful and the Math Background explains the mathematics in
each unit. The games can be played by students at home.

News -
Prepayment via credit card: The Food
and Nutrition Department is pleased to introduce an exciting
new service for school meal prepayments. Effective
immediately, parents of students can log onto
www.myLunchMoney.com and prepay for their child’s meals
using their Visa or MasterCard. The charge for this service
is a flat fee of $1.95 per credit card transaction
regardless of the amount paid. Parents can also call a toll
free number with questions, or to enroll over the phone, at
1-800-479-3531.
The online account allows parents to
view their child’s balance and make payments any time of
day. Parents can also set up “one-time” or recurring
prepayment transactions. In a future upgrade, parents will
be able to view their child’s meal purchases and spending
history, set limits for meal purchases, and view nutritional
content of their child’s meals.

Weekly Phone Calls
Morning Creek is using a system called
ConnectED to call our families with important
recorded messages. We are making these
calls every Sunday evening at 6:30.
Once in a while, when listening to a message
please be aware that the background noise at the
receiving end may cause the system to stop and
restart or it may cause the message to stutter
and repeat. It is calibrated very delicately to
determine whether a person or an answering
machine is responding to the ConnectED phone
call. If possible move to a quiet area, or press
the “mute” button on your phone. Also, if you
missed any part of a message, please stay on the
line and press “*” (star) to hear the message
again.
For more information on ConnectED visit:

December Principal Message
Each year time seems to go by more
quickly! How can it be December already? It feels like
yesterday that kids walked through the gate for the first
day of school. December will be a busy month with our PTA
Book Fair, Bring a Loved One to Lunch Day, K-3 Awards
Assembly, and Foundation Candy Cane Sales. I know this is a
busy time of year for everyone and teachers and students
will be working hard before winter break.
Thank you to our PTA for organizing
Movie Night! We had a wonderful turn out for our first
movie and everyone loved Kung Fu Panda! A special
thanks to Ken Weidele for working his magic to fix our sound
system during the movie.
We just received the results of our 5th
grade Physical Fitness Test from last year. We had an 18%
increase in the number of students that scored in the
Healthy Fitness Zone meeting 6 of the 6 fitness criteria.
Students are assessed in the areas of aerobic capacity, body
composition, abdominal strength, trunk extensor strength,
upper body strength, and flexibility. The support of our PE
Instructional Assistant, Marsha Santiago and the
implementation of our SPARK PE Program all contribute to
helping our students develop good fitness habits. Healthy
bodies help improve confidence, self-esteem and success in
academics!
In November, we held an earthquake
drill in conjunction with the Great California Shake Out.
All public schools are required to have emergency procedures
in place and have an Emergency Plan reviewed annually. We
also hold the following drills throughout the year to ensure
we are prepared in case of an emergency.
- Fire drills, monthly
- Drop-Cover-Hold/Evacuation, twice
each semester
- Lockdown drills, each semester
- Disaster drill, each semester
In the case of an emergency, we would
utilize our ConnectEd system to call all parents
immediately. ConnectEd allows us to select home phones,
emails and cell phones in the case of an emergency. This is
one of the reasons it is so important to always update your
information with your child’s school. To make it
convenient, you may now make changes on line by clicking on
the link below and following the directions.
http://www.powayusd.com/registration/onlineAccountActivation2.shtml
If there was an emergency, we evacuate
to the lower field. If you were contacted to pick up your
child, we would give specific information about where to
pick him/her up if our building was compromised or we needed
to relocate due to fire. During our drills, we remind
students the importance of being prepared. Please remember
to have a plan at home as well in case of emergency. Also,
it is very helpful if students know who may pick them up in
case of an emergency and always be sure your emergency
contact information is on file and current at the school.
All of us are feeling the impact of the
state of the economy throughout the country but particularly
in California. We anticipate another challenging budget
reduction for public schools. I will continue to keep you
informed through newsletters, our website, principal coffees
and weekly call outs. Thank you to everyone that donated
paper to Morning Creek. Your donations have made a
significant difference and we are all very grateful!
I wish all of you a wonderful holiday
season and a very happy new year!
Together, we create a better tomorrow.
Carol Osborne, Principal
