Welcome to Slice of the PIE. This on-line newsletter will serve as a format to distribute informational items to both our Partners and administrators. The information will be broken down into four different areas: WELCOME NEW PARTNERS
PARTNER ACTIVITIESHow do our business partners support our students? By participating in the classroom as mentors or classroom speakers, judging senior projects, volunteering on interview panels, donating equipment and supplies, supporting academic competitions such as Science Olympiad or FIRST Robotics, sponsoring industry tours and career days, offering scholarships, funding science kits for elementary school classrooms, working within our budget when services are requested, sponsoring fundraisers, hosting events, participating in advisory meetings, and more!
ATK Mission Systems, located in Rancho Bernardo, joins Partners in Education and will be mentoring in the science and math classes at Rancho Bernardo High School. ATK engineers will provide relevance of classroom instruction to real world experiences.
Farmers Insurance Group - Joe Giamanco and Aurora Behavioral Health Care sponsor Red Ribbon Week October 20-24 with financial donation to assist with the purchase of red ribbons and bracelets for students to remind studenets to live drug free lives.

Northrop Grumman Integrated Systems Northrop Grumman continues to Sponsor FIRST Robotics competition for Poway High and Rancho Bernardo High Schools.
Office Depot Sponsors Teacher Appreciation Breakfast and Back to School Breakfast. Office Depot's 5% Back to School Program gives back to the schools. Designate your school at checkout and 5% of qualifying items will be awarded in store credit back to your school for free supplies.
WaMoola for Schools program. With school enrollment in the program dollars earned for your school are based on points accumulated when using the WAMU debit Mastercard. Proceeds from 2007 brought over $10,000 to PUSD schools. Contact Washington Mutual at www.wamoolaforschools.com
The Kiwanis Club of Rancho Penasquitos Thank you to The Kiwanis Club of Rancho Penasquitos for sponsoring the Westview and Mt. Carmel High School Key Clubs participating in service projects throughout the year. Recently the students assisted with the Tour de Poway, preparing food and providing water to cyclists at the aid stations in Poway and Rancho Bernardo. In addition, The Kiwanis Club has donated supplies to the Los Penasquitos Head Start Program and sponsor the Running Club at Shoal Creek Elementary. A fun, free, non-commercial program that gives adults and students all the essential basics of money managemen is offered by Wells Fargo. Topics include budgeting, the importance of saving, bank accounts and services, borrowing money and establishing credit, investing, and more. WASHINGTON MUTUAL - WaMoola for Schools Program SCHOOL NEEDS To make a donation to our schools, please contact the Partners in Education office at (858) 668-4030. FUNDING FOR CHARACTER COUNTS PROGRAM to purchase posters and banners tgo display at our schools as reminders to students to show good character. The six pillars of character include Trustworthiness, Respect, Responsibility, Fairness, Caring, and Citizenship - ethical values to guide our choices. FITNESS MATS needed at our schools. CAREER, TECHNICAL, AND ADULT EDUCATION seeks camera equipment for the high school Digital Media Production classes at Poway High School, Rancho Bernardo High School, Westview High School, and Mt. Carmel High School. PLANS FOR GRAD NITE 2009 ARE UNDERWAY! Grad Nite is a celebration for our graduates the evening of Graduation in a safe, drug-free, alcohol-free, and smoke-free setting with the camaraderie of fellow classmates. Historically, 80 to 85 percent of our graduates attend Grad Nite and we strive for higher attendance every year. We cannot hold Grad Nite events without the support of the community and local businesses. In addition to numerous volunteer hours, Grad Nite is funded by students, parents, and contributions from the community. Because this is a community safety program, your contribution will be divided among the five PUSD high schools. Your organization will be recognized in all PUSD high school graduation and post-graduation ceremonies.
