| As an On-line Human Biology student,
you have the unique opportunity to learn at your own pace and learn
at the time that’s most convenient for you. We
will study many aspects of Human Biology, including Cell Biology,
Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Forensics, Microbiology, Forensic
Science, Anatomy and Physiology, and Disease. See the syllabus
for a weekly breakdown of what we'll cover this year. This course covers the same material as regular Human Biology. However, the activities in which you participate are different. A lot of time is spent on the computer doing your own investigating and projects. You will use an interactive tutorial CD to help you learn the material and take practice quizzes. You will be reading on your own, so reading skills are essential to your success in the course. Other essential skills include time management and comfort using the computer. Questions with homework and projects can be emailed to the instructor. We meet weekly during lab periods where fun and challenging labs are completed (for example, Forensic Science, Cloning, Urinalysis, and Blood Typing). You will also play the role of Doctor or Researcher and solve disease case studies. Interesting documentaries and videos will occasionally be viewed. Quizzes and Exams are given weekly, either on-line or in class. The course is UC approved and is articulated with Miramar Community College (Bio 131). You can earn 4 units of college credit, transferrable to CSU or UC. |
