Stone Ranch Elementary School Building Begins in July

Work Moves Forward on Construction of Other Schools

Construction of Stone Ranch Elementary School, the first elementary school in 4S Ranch, will begin next month.  Stone Ranch, located at 16150 4S Ranch Parkway, is scheduled to open in September 2004 and is designed to house 700 students.

Poway Unified School District is also in discussions with developer 4S Kelwood to deliver a second elementary school site in 4S Ranch by the summer of 2004. The second school is also planned to accommodate 700 students and could be ready for occupancy by September 2005.

By advancing construction of the second elementary school, students from 4S Ranch, Christopherhill (Bernardo Springs), Santa Fe Valley, and Portswood may be served at a neighborhood school sooner than anticipated.  This plan was developed by the District to be responsive to the community and reduce the amount of inconvenience experienced by elementary school students from these neighborhoods.

In addition to the elementary schools, the District will be starting construction on a new middle school in 4S Ranch – Oak Valley Middle School – in February 2004. This school will serve students attending the two new 4S Ranch elementary schools, as well as other elementary schools in the general area.   Students attending Oak Valley Middle School will attend Mt. Carmel High School according to current high school boundaries.  Plans call for Oak Valley Middle School to open in September 2005.

Construction of the three schools has been moved ahead of original plans in order to respond to the escalating growth in the northwest portion of the District.

Attendance boundaries for the new schools will be created in early 2004.

Poway Unified School District currently operates 21 elementary schools, five middle schools, four high schools, and one continuing education campus with a district-wide enrollment of over 32,700.
