To Our Graduating Class of 2006

Graduation from high school represents a significant milestone in life. It is the culmination of 13-plus years of formal schooling to impart the skills, knowledge, and attitudes students have absorbed over these formative years. On Wednesday, June 21, over 2,000 Poway Unified seniors will participate in this ceremony, which represents moving from childhood to a new phase in their lives.

This is an exciting time for parents. We remember the first days of preschool or kindergarten as we watch our grown-up sons and daughters march across the stage to receive their high school diplomas. As parents, we can take great pride in our role of being their primary teacher and principle source of support and love. We are excited about their future, and our only regret may be that they are moving to new challenges and opportunities that often take them far away from home.

As educators, we share in your enthusiasm and pride regarding this outstanding group of young women and men and believe we have prepared them for the challenges and opportunities that lie ahead. We are proud of the partnership we have built with you as parents as we have helped guide your children in the classroom and also in the music room, athletic field, theater, community service, and club participation or leadership. This cohort of students has taken move advanced courses, met higher academic standards, and has been more involved in extracurricular activities than any prior class. We know that as they spread their wings, they will continue to excel.

As Poway Unified School District educators and staff members, we have been honored to be a part of this learning process. Congratulations, and thank you, parents, for your confidence in our teachers, administrators, and staff as we collectively worked together to prepare your child for the future.

And to our graduates – We wish you the very best!

Sincerely,

Donald A. Phillips, Ed.D.
