“I’m very much looking forward to the opportunity to work more closely
with teachers and district leaders in my new position as Director of Secondary Education.
Teachers in our district give so much of themselves for the success of their students, and it
is my hope to support their efforts in any way possible,” said Dr. Carrillo. “As much as I’m
looking forward to my new position, it’s very difficult to leave the staff at Black Mountain
Middle School. I have enjoyed the positive learning environment we have built for students,
staff, and parents. I have truly been blessed by each member of the staff and will miss them
tremendously.”
Dr. Carrillo began his career in education as a science teacher at Bonita
Vista High School where he taught International Baccalaureate biology and chemistry and was a
teacher on special assignment for curriculum and instruction. Dr. Carrillo has been an
administrator in the Poway Unified School district for ten years, first as assistant principal
for Poway High School, and for the past seven years, as principal of Black Mountain Middle
School.
Dr. Carrillo’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree
in Biology and Chemistry from San Diego State University, a Master of Arts degree in
Educational Leadership from San Diego State University, and a Doctoral degree in Educational
Leadership and Management from the University of La Verne.
Dr. Carrillo lives in Rancho Penasquitos with his wife, Cris, and two
children; a son who is in first grade and a daughter who is a sophomore in the Poway Unified
School District.
Black Mountain Middle School: David Hall
Mr. Hall is presently serving as an assistant principal at San Dieguito High
School Academy. Before going to the San Dieguito Union School District in 1997, Mr. Hall
worked as an assistant principal at Black Mountain Middle School.
Mr. Hall has held school administrator positions for eleven years. He began
his career in education as a classroom teacher in Vista and Poway Unified. In San Dieguito he
has been assistant principal at Torrey Pines High School, La Costa Canyon High School, and San
Dieguito High School Academy. At Poway Unified he worked as a consultant for the peer coaching
program and was a mentor teacher for special day teachers. Mr. Hall was San Diego Council of
Administrators of Special Education Teacher of the Year in 1993.
PUSD Superintendent Don Phillips said, “We are very pleased to welcome Mr.
Hall back to PUSD after spending the past nine years successfully serving in the San Dieguito
Union School District as assistant principal. His experience and commitment to middle school
students and the academic program will allow Black Mountain Middle School to continue to grow
and move forward in powerful and positive ways. In addition, Mr. Hall brings experience from
San Dieguito Academy which will help us continue to develop the new academies that are
underway at Black Mountain.”
“I am thrilled to be returning to Black Mountain. I really enjoyed my time
there,” said Mr. Hall. “I love the diversity and welcoming culture of the community, and
see that as a huge asset to making Black Mountain a unique place to learn.”
Mr. Hall’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Science degree and
a Master of Arts degree in Educational Administration from San Diego State University.
He lives in Encinitas with his wife, Gayle, who works for the San Diego County
Office of Education as a program specialist. Their son Devin is a freshman at Palomar College,
and their daughter Kelsey is graduating this June and going to San Francisco State University.
Twin Peaks Middle School: Lynell Antrim
Ms. Antrim is currently serving as an assistant principal at Poway High
School, a position she has held for the past six years.
Ms. Antrim has been with Poway Unified since 1975. She has worked as an
English teacher, physical education teacher, and Associated Student Body (ASB) Director at Mt.
Carmel High School where she was Mt. Carmel’s Teacher of the Year in 1994. As assistant
principal at Poway High School, Ms. Antrim’s responsibilities include the areas of
instructional leadership and ensuring that students are meeting their academic goals. She is
the building construction coordinator for Poway High’s construction project, works with the
math, English Language Learners, AVID, and English departments, and oversees the counseling
department.
“Ms. Antrim brings a wealth of experience as an assistant principal at Poway
High School. Her experience at Twin Peaks’ neighboring high school will help build even
stronger partnerships between Twin Peaks and Poway High,” said PUSD Superintendent Don
Phillips. “Her experience at the high school level gives her a very clear vision for what it
takes for students to be successful in the ninth grade.”
“It is with great honor and excitement that I accept the position of
principal at Twin Peaks Middle School. I look forward to working with a staff that I know to
be dynamic, creative, and committed to helping all students succeed personally and
academically,” said Ms. Antrim. “I look forward to meeting the parents and students and
working with the school community. Twin Peaks is a great school, and I am honored to build on
the traditions that have established it as a place where excellence can flourish.”
Ms. Antrim’s educational background includes a Bachelor of Arts degree with
a major in physical education and a minor in English from San Diego State University and a
Master of Arts degree in physical education from Azusa Pacific University.
Ms. Antrim lives in Coronado. Her son Jason, who graduated from the University
of California, Santa Barbara, with a degree in business and economics, is working in the
financial field.
