The community was cordially invited to hear well-known
ethicist Michael Josephson when he spoke at the Poway Center for Performing Arts on
Tuesday, October 7, from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Michael Josephson, the founder of
Character Counts!, has become one of the most sought-after teachers and speakers on
the subjects of ethics and character. His award-winning radio commentaries air daily
on CBS’s KNX News Radio in southern California and around the world on American
Forces Radio.
Character Counts! is a partnership of communities, schools, and other educational and
youth-service organizations. It provides character-building programs based on six core
values: trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness, caring and citizenship.
Last spring the Poway Unified School District received an anonymous donation of
$930,000 from a member of the local community to implement the Character Counts!
Program over the next three years.
Superintendent Don Phillips said, “My primary focus as an educator is to ensure
every student reaches his or her potential, with a strong academic emphasis. An
environment that does not adhere to the values of trustworthiness, respect,
responsibility, fairness, caring, and citizenship would block our students from
reaching their potential successfully. This is an opportunity for the community and
schools to join together and support this worthwhile program. On behalf of the Poway
Unified School District I thank our generous donor for his contribution so we can
implement this national character education program for the children of our district
and for our community.” |
