Application Procedures and Employment Information for the Classified Service

It is recommended that you print the information on this page as it contains important information pertinent to submitting an application.

 

NOTE:  Applications will be entered in our applicant database and retained for THREE months from the date of receipt in our office.  If you are not contacted within three months and are still interested in this position, you will need to reapply.

Application Packet
The application packet is in PDF format and contains the following (7 pages total):  Standard Application Form (5 pages) and Availability Questionnaire (2 pages)
Please check the position listing to see if a supplemental form is required in addition to the Standard Application packet.

Applications that PUSD determines have been altered or modified in any way may not be accepted.  

Resumes will not be accepted in lieu of any portion of the application. 

Positions may be opened with a “Deadline Date to Apply” or a “Priority Deadline”.  A “Deadline Date to Apply” indicates that no applications will be accepted after that closing date and time.  A “Priority Deadline” indicates a date that applications on file will be reviewed.  PUSD reserves the right to close a recruitment on a Priority Deadline or extend it for a longer period of time at their discretion. 

For each position applied for, you must file a separate application packet.  The information you provide will be subject to review and verification.  Applications that PUSD determines have been altered or modified in any way may not be accepted.  The application and attachments become the property of the Poway Unified School District (PUSD).  PUSD does not photocopy application materials.  Please print or type the forms.   

Supplemental Application

Some vacancies require a supplemental application to be completed and returned with the application packet.  The job opportunity listing will indicate if a supplemental application is required.

Minimum Requirements

Your application will be accepted if it clearly indicates that the minimum qualifications for the position are met.  It is your responsibility to provide sufficient information to determine your qualifications; therefore, it is important that you include your education, training, and experience on the application form.  Attach additional sheets if necessary.  If your application is not accepted, you will be notified. Scheduled Test Time Tests held for this position start promptly at the scheduled time. Late admission is not permitted.  It is the candidate’s responsibility to arrive prior to the starting test time.

 

Testing Information

You will receive communication from the Personnel Commission office (generally in writing) regarding each step of the process.  Please read each communication carefully.

If your application passes the initial screening, you will be invited to an examination.  The examination is scheduled approximately seven (7) days after the close of applications.  Time allowed for the examination may be as long as two (2) hours.  Please plan accordingly.

If you are successful on the examination, you will be invited to a “Qualifications Appraisal Interview."  This is a formal interview with a panel of interviewers.  Your score from this interview (or oral examination) will be used, in whole or in part, to establish your ranking on an eligibility list.  Please prepare accordingly for this interview.   The Qualifications Appraisal Interview is scheduled approximately seven (7) days after the examination.

If you are successful in the Qualifications Appraisal Interview, your name will be placed on an eligibility list based on your composite score.  Applicants are called for selection interviews in order of their placement on this list.

Name, Address, Telephone Changes 

Any time you change your residence, name or telephone number, this information should be reported to the Personnel Commission Office in writing.  If you have changed your name, state your former name as well as your new name.  Indicate the position for which you applied.

Conditions of Employment

Before appointment to a position, each new hire is required to:
  • Provide proof of eligibility to work in the U.S.
  • Provide proof of a negative Tuberculosis examination
  • Sign an oath of allegiance or affirmation to the U.S. and the State of California
  • Secure fingerprint and background clearance

Salary

New employees are usually appointed at step one of a five-step salary range. All salaries are subject to payroll deductions for withholding tax, retirement contributions and Social Security.  Employees are paid once a month on the last working day of the month.

Accommodation

In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, applicants requiring accommodation for an employment examination must notify the Personnel Commission Office in writing and attach it to your completed application packet.

Appeal

If you are notified of disqualification after any part of the examination process and you do not agree with the result, you may appeal to the Personnel Director.  The appeal must state the reasons in writing and be received in the Personnel Commission office within seven (7) calendar days from the postmarked date of notice.
